Flu Vaccinations
Seasonal Influenza
The Van Wert County General Health District offers seasonal influenza vaccine. To be protected, you must be immunized every year. Flu viruses vary from year to year, and the flu vaccine addresses these changes.
The flu virus causes a contagious respiratory illness which can lead to fever, muscle soreness, sore throat, stuffy nose, cough, fatigue, and headaches.
The Van Wert County General Health District is offering flu vaccine for everyone age 6-month and older including a high-dose vaccine for those age 65 and older. While everyone is now recommended to receive influenza vaccine, high-risk patients: pregnant women, those with asthma, diabetes, or other chronic conditions, remain at risk for serious complications from influenza and it is highly recommended that these groups receive the vaccine.
You can help prevent the flu with the following actions:
- Get a flu shot
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
- Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue, discard the tissue, and wash your hands afterward
- Stay home if you are sick
